Honda
Hondaism
ArtCenter Trans 6
2024

Instructor: Chris Chapman

“Hondaism” is a future mobility concept rooted in the context of Burkina Faso, aiming to address and heal the structural wounds left by colonialism and the global industrial system. Taking a postcolonial perspective, it reimagines Africa’s role in today’s circular economy, breaking away from the narrative of being the world’s dumping ground.

The project introduces a system of modular, renewable, and community-adaptive mobile units that support education, infrastructure, entertainment, and more—transforming vehicles into platforms for local production, knowledge sharing, and cultural expression. Rather than replicating Western modernism, Hondaism embraces African materiality and agency, using Afrofuturism to create a locally driven, sustainable vision where mobility becomes a tool for empowerment and connection.
